Cynergy Ergonomics Featured In Modern Materials Handling Magazine
Cynergy Ergonomics was recently featured in the February 2014 edition of Modern Materials Handling magazine. Here, Cynergy Ergonomics CEO Mike Shannahan talks about the benefits of investing in ergonomic lift equipment for manufacturing companies and why it's preferred over finding and hiring new employees.
Cynergy Ergonomics In Modern Materials Handling
“Some companies use a couple of young, strong people in a low-paid job, and the policy is just to burn through them in six months. A company with that mentality won't invest in ergonomic solutions, but seems to ignore the cost of training someone every six months,” said Shannahan.
Shannahan then reinforces the importance of ergonomic equipment by saying that it pays for itself after preventing just a single serious injury in the workplace. “And if you prevent one worker from blowing out his rotator cuff, you've paid for it all right there.”
That's really the heart of what Cynergy Ergonomics is all about: preventing work-related injuries while improving productivity. A Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) study found that it costs companies an average of $3,500 to replace one $8.00/hour employee. Companies that follow the 'churn-and-burn' approach end up spending a significant amount of resources hiring new employees. Each time an employee is injured and the company is forced to find a replacement, they must pay for interviewing, training, safety gear, etc., all of which can quickly add up.
Shannahan also talks about how one small women can perform the same task as two or three larger men by using the right ergonomic equipment. Manufacturing companies are no longer forced to hire only strong men for heavy lifting jobs. With the right ergonomic lift equipment in place, small-framed women can perform the very same tasks safely and effectively. Ergonomic lift equipment is typically operated by a single user at the control panel.
